How to Set Up and Use an EGoViet eSIM While Travelling
Landing in a new country should not begin with searching for a SIM-card shop or worrying about an unexpected roaming bill. An EGoViet eSIM gives your compatible phone a prepaid mobile-data plan that you can prepare before departure and use when you reach your destination.
This guide explains the full process: choosing a plan, installing it, switching your phone to the eSIM for data, and resolving the most common connection issues.
Before you start: your phone must be carrier-unlocked and support eSIM. Keep a stable Wi-Fi connection available for installation.
1. Pick the right EGoViet eSIM plan
Visit egoViet and search for the country or region you are visiting. Select the plan that best fits the length of your trip and the amount of data you expect to use.
When deciding, consider:
-
Destination: choose a country plan, a regional plan for a multi-country trip, or a global option when available.
-
Data allowance: light use such as maps and messaging needs less data than video calls, social media, or hotspot use.
-
Alidity period: choose a plan that covers your travel dates.
After checkout, your eSIM details and installation instructions are delivered digitally. There is no physical SIM card to wait for or replace.
2. Install your EGoViet eSIM
Install the eSIM before you leave whenever possible, while you have reliable Wi-Fi. It is normal for the plan to remain inactive until you arrive or connect to a supported network; check the activation policy shown with your specific plan.
EGoViet may provide a QR code and, when needed, manual activation details. Use the method that is most convenient for your device.
Option A: Install with the QR code
Open the QR code on another screen, print it, or save it to your phone so you can select it from Photos. Do not scan the QR code with your normal camera app—scan it from the eSIM setup screen.
iPhone
-
Connect to Wi-Fi and open Settings.
- Tap Mobile Data or Cellular.
- Choose Add eSIM.
- Tap Use QR Code.
- Scan the EGoViet QR code, or tap Open Photos to select a saved code.
- Follow the prompts to add the mobile plan. Wait for the confirmation screen before leaving setup.
- Give the plan a clear label, such as EGoViet Travel, so it is easy to identify later.
Samsung and other Android phones
- Menu names can differ slightly by model and Android version. In most cases:
- Connect to Wi-Fi and open Settings.
- Go to Connections > SIM manager.
- Tap Add eSIM.
- Choose Scan QR code from service provider.
- Scan the EGoViet QR code, or select it from your photo library when that option appears.
- Tap Add or Confirm, then wait until the phone confirms that the eSIM has been added.
Option B: Install manually
Use this option if the QR code will not scan. Your EGoViet delivery email or order page will show the required SM-DP+ address and activation code. Enter them exactly as provided.
iPhone
- Go to Settings > Mobile Data/Cellular > Add eSIM.
- Select Use QR Code, then choose Enter Details Manually.
- Paste the SM-DP+ address and activation code. Enter a confirmation code only if your instructions include one.
- Tap Next and complete the on-screen setup.
Samsung and other Android phones
- Go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM.
- Select Scan QR code from service provider.
- Choose Enter activation code.
- Paste the activation code supplied by EGoViet and confirm the installation.
3. Set EGoViet as your travel data line
Once the eSIM is installed, keep your primary SIM selected for calls and SMS if you want to retain your usual number and WhatsApp. Set the EGoViet eSIM as the line used for mobile data while abroad.
On iPhone
- Open Settings > Mobile Data/Cellular.
- Select your EGoViet Travel eSIM and make sure Turn On This Line is enabled.
- Return to Mobile Data/Cellular Data and select the EGoViet eSIM.
- Turn Allow Cellular Data Switching off to avoid your phone using data from your main line unexpectedly.
- Open Mobile Data Options and set Data Roaming according to the instructions for your exact EGoViet plan. Many travel eSIMs require it to be on.
On Android
- Open Settings > Connections > SIM manager.
- Ensure the EGoViet eSIM is enabled.
- Under Mobile data, choose the EGoViet eSIM.
- Go to Mobile networks and set Data roaming as instructed with your plan.
Your phone should then connect to one of the supported local networks. Connection can take a few minutes after you arrive.
4. If you cannot get online
First, confirm that you are in the plan's coverage area and that its validity period has started. Then try the following in order:
- Turn airplane mode on for 10 seconds, then turn it off.
- Confirm that the EGoViet eSIM is turned on and selected for mobile data.
- Check whether your plan requires Data Roaming to be enabled.
- Restart your phone.
- Review the plan instructions for an APN setting. Most plans configure automatically, but some need an APN entered manually.
- If the issue remains, contact EGoViet support with your order details and a screenshot of your mobile settings.
